Safety Precautions before you preform CPR

This is a subject quite honestly most people don’t pay attention to. Often people come across an accident scene and the very first thing they think about is going out and saving that person’s life without thinking of their own. It’s really easy to get tunnel vision and concentrate on getting to the victim as soon as possible. The first thing that should be going through your mind is your own safety. Too many people die at the scene rendering aid but fail to take their own safety into consideration. If there are other people at the scene use others to help you so you can get to the job at hand in keeping everyone safe.

Also, if you have a few people at the scene with you… give each a person a job to make your easier on yourself. Here is an example:

Person 1) Call 911 for me and get back with me

Person 2) Go into some of the stores here and see if you can find me an AED

Person 3) Get all the onlookers back 10 feet from me so I can do my job.

You get the idea here. Have others help you so you can get to the task at hand.
